Delhi: There was a major scare on an Air India flight from Bengaluru to Delhi after one of its engines caught fire. A huge disaster was avoided as the plane managed to land safely in Delhi. Air India has confirmed that all passengers are safe. A full emergency was declared at the Indira Gandhi International Airport following the fire.

The flight, an Airbus A320 (AI 2802), landed safely around 9:30 PM on Thursday. It touched down on runway 29R and was later towed away. There were 171 passengers on board. Operations on the runway, which were disrupted due to the incident, resumed at 10:18 PM. Air India has also released a clear statement about the incident.

Just moments before the plane was about to land in Delhi, the cockpit crew got a warning that one of the engines was on fire. This warning was later confirmed to be true. The pilot and crew immediately followed all safety procedures and landed the plane safely at Delhi airport. Air India stated that all passengers and crew on board are completely safe and got off the plane normally. The airline has immediately started a detailed investigation into the cause of the incident, in cooperation with the concerned regulatory authorities.

This wasn't the only incident for the airline on Thursday. Earlier in the morning, another Air India flight with 181 passengers had a scare when its tail hit the runway while landing at Bengaluru airport. The flight, AI 2651, an A321 aircraft, was coming from Delhi. Following the tail strike during landing, the plane has been grounded for detailed inspections. In that incident too, all passengers and crew had disembarked safely.
