Necessity is the mother of all needs. And the necessity to have a proper toilet is what forced this woman to take up things in her own hands. 80-year old Chandana from Anantpur Village in Kanpur sold off six of her goats to collect money to build a toilet for her 102-year old mother-in-law who had recently broken her leg while going to use the toilet.
When her daughter-in-law took it up with the government authorities, they turned a blind eye to her plight, thus forcing her to take this step. The octogenarian gifted the toilet to her mother-in-law on Mother's Day.
The woman is also upheld as the echelon of personal and public hygiene and has received a lot of support for her efforts. She has also turned into a hero in her own village.
