Setback for Trump: US Supreme Court dumps lawsuit against Biden's win in 4 states

The U.S Supreme Court has thrown out a lawsuit filed by Texas and backed by US President Donald Trump which challenged President elect Joe Biden's victory in 4 states.

The verdict come as a blow for Trump who has been trying to reverse the presidential election result in his favour. To recall, 126 of the 196 Republicans in the House had also backed the lawsuit.In a brief order, the Supreme Court justices said Texas did not have legal standing to bring the case against Georgia, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin."Texas has not demonstrated a judicially cognizable interest in the manner in which another state conducts its elections," the brief unsigned opinion of the court noted.

'Supreme Court acted decisively'President Joe Biden's team has welcomed the Supreme Court verdict, calling it an end to Trump's legal battle.In a statement, campaign spokesman Mike Gwin said: "The Supreme Court has decisively and speedily rejected the latest of Donald Trump and his allies' attacks on the democratic process.""This is no surprise -- dozens of judges, election officials from both parties, and Trump's own Attorney General have dismissed his baseless attempts to deny that he lost the election," he said."President-elect Biden's clear and commanding victory will be ratified by the Electoral College on Monday, and he will be sworn in on January 20th."
