India on Thursday received the first part of a Mobile Oxygen Generation and Filling Plant from Germany to help hospitals in India which are facing a shortage of oxygen amid the surging cases of Coronavirus.The plant has a capacity to produce 4 lakh litres of oxygen per day."A two-decade-long strategic partnership! Deeply grateful to our trusted partner Germany for providing a massive oxygen generating plant. Capacity to generate up to 4 lakh litres of O2day. Being shipped in 2 parts. 1st part arrived today. The next consignment of medical supplies will be arriving on Friday in New Delhi, German Envoy to India Walter J Lindner said."German military aircraft with the first part of a massive oxygen plant for India will depart from an airport to help Indian hospitals that are facing acute shortage of oxygen due to the second wave of coronavirus,” he said in a tweet."A mega oxygen plant is very useful as it can be used to refill oxygen cylinders. Of course, there will also be Mobil X oxygen plants which at the moment I understand are being brought to India by the Indian Air Force," the envoy said.

After the system arrives in India, it will take around two days for it to be completely set up. This will be followed by a detailed technical check-up. This involves testing the pressure system for leaks.The entire configuration of the oxygen generation system includes two 20 foot containers, two power generators and a loading bridge with the material. The latter is a loading area that can be parked from the truck without a crane or forklift truck. The system can be operated independently even if the power supply fails on site.A team of 13 German paramedics from the Bundeswehr medical service has also arrived and is helping in installing the plant at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Covid Hospital at Delhi Cantonment.

The paramedics will also train personnel of the Indian Red Cross at the site in the coming days. After successful commissioning, this will be handed over to the Indian Red Cross, which will continue to operate the plant.On Monday, the Indian Air Force’s C-17 transport aircraft airlifted four empty cryogenic oxygen containers from Frankfurt in Germany to Hindan in Ghaziabad.As per the health ministry data on Thursday, India reported over 4.12 lakh new Covid cases, taking the total tally 2,10,77,410 while the fatalities for day recorded at 3,980, taking total death toll to 2,30,168.
