Coronavirus: India sees uptick in daily COVID infections, active cases rise by 1,040

India reported 42,015 new cases and 3,998 deaths in the last 24 hours on Wednesday, according to data updated by the Health Ministry.
 

India recorded 42,015 new cases of Covid-19 during the past 24 hours pushing the case tally to 3,12,16,337, while the death toll mounted to 4,18,480 with 3,998 more fatalities, the Union Health Ministry said on Wednesday.

India’s active cases of Covid-19 also rose by 1,040 in the last 24 hours. These account for 1.3% of total infections.

A total of 36,977 people were discharged in the past 24 hours, and the total active cases are at 4,07,170, data from the Union health Ministry showed. The recovery rate stands at 97.36%.

India’s daily positivity rate-- the percentage of all coronavirus tests performed that turn out to be positive—is at 2.27% and it has been less than 3% for 30 consecutive days, according to the Health Ministry.

Meanwhile, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) said that a total of 44,91,93,273 samples have been tested so far for coronavirus. Of this, 18,52,140 were tested on Tuesday.
