Coronavirus: India’s active cases lowest in 242 days, recovery rate at 98.19%

India reported 13,451 new cases and 585 deaths in the last 24 hours, according to the Union Health Ministry data on Wednesday.

India logged a single-day rise of 13,451 new Covid-19 cases, which pushed the nationwide tally to 34,215,653. The death toll climbed to 455,653 with 585 daily fatalities, according to the Union Health Ministry data on Wednesday. 

Meanwhile, the country's active caseload stands at 1,62,661 which is lowest in 242 days, with a decline of 1,155 cases in the last 24 hours. Active cases constitute 0.48 per cent of total cases, the ministry further said.

The total recoveries in the country climbed to 3,35,97,339 with 14,021 recoveries in the last 24 hours, the ministry said. The national Covid-19 recovery rate stands at 98.19 per cent, highest since March 2020.

According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) data, as many as 11,31,826 Covid-19 tests were conducted on Tuesday. So far, a total of 60,19,01,543 tests have been conducted to detect Covid-19.

So far, the cumulative doses administered in the country have reached 1,03,53,25,577, with 55,89,124 doses administered yesterday, under the nationwide Covid-19 vaccination drive. 

Meanwhile, the Union Government is committed to accelerating the pace and expanding the scope of Covid-19 vaccination throughout the country. The vaccination drive has been ramped up through availability of more vaccines, advance visibility of vaccine availability to States and UTs for enabling better planning by them, and streamlining the vaccine supply chain, PIB stated.

More than 107.81 crore (1,07,81,96,865) vaccine doses have been provided to States/UTs so far through Govt of India (free of cost channel) and through direct state procurement category. More than 12.37 crore (12,37,64,029) balance and unutilized Covid vaccine doses are still available with the States/UTs to be administered.
