Coronavirus: India reports 62,480 new COVID-19 cases, active cases under 8 lakh after 73 days

In good news, the daily deaths have fallen below 2,000-mark, after two months. The 1,587 new deaths reported in a span of 24 hours has brought the country's total death toll to 3,83,490.

India on Friday registered 62,480 cases and 1,587 deaths due to the coronavirus disease (Covid-19), taking the caseload and death toll to 29,762,793 and 383,490 respectively, according to the Union health ministry.

As many as 88,977 people recovered from the disease in the last 24 hours, taking the total recoveries in the country to 28,58,0647, the health ministry update at 8 am showed.

India's active Covid-19 caseload has now declined by 28,084 to 7,98,656 -- less than 8 lakh after 73 days and now constitute 2.78% of the caseload.

The Covid-19 recovery rate in the country has increased to 96.03%, while the weekly positivity rate remains below 5% -- currently at 3.80%. The daily positivity rate now stands at 3.24% -- less than 5 per cent for the 11th consecutive day.

A total of 387,167,696 samples have been tested for Covid-19 so far of which 1,929,476 were tested in the last 24 hours, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) said on Friday.
