Coronavirus: India reports 62,224 new COVID-19 cases, 2,542 deaths in last 24 hours

India reported 62,224 new Covid cases in the last 24 hours, slightly higher than yesterday's figures.

India on Wednesday reported 62,224 new Covid-19 cases keeping the single-day rise under one lakh for the ninth consecutive day. The country's total caseload is 2,96,33,105, as per the Union health ministry data updated at 8 am today.

The Covid-19 death toll climbed to 3,79,573 with 2,542 fresh fatalities, the data updated at 8 am showed.

The active cases further declined to 8,65,432 comprising 2.92% of the total infections.

On the brighter side, 1,07,628 people were discharged in a single day. In all 2,83,88,100 people have been discharged after hospitalisation due to the infection. The recovery rate increased to 95.80%.

The top five states which registered the maximum coronavirus cases are Kerala with 12,246 cases, followed by Tamil Nadu with 11,805 cases, Maharashtra with 7,652 cases, Andhra Pradesh with 5,741 cases and Karnataka with 5,041 cases. As many as 68.28% of the new Covid-19 cases are reported from these five states, with Kerala alone responsible for 19.68% of the new cases.

The daily positivity rate stands at 3.22% and has been less than 5% for 9 consecutive days. The weekly positivity rate has also dropped to less than 5% and stands currently at 4.17%.

According to the Indian Council of Medical Research, 38,33,06,971 samples have been tested up to June 15 for Covid-19. Of these 19,30,987 samples were tested on Tuesday.
