Coronavirus: India reports another dip in daily COVID-19 tally with 70,421 new cases, lowest in 74 days

India on Monday reported 70,421 new Covid-19 infections over the past 24 hours, the lowest since April 1, data from the health ministry showed.
 

India on Monday recorded 70,421 cases and 3,921 fatalities due to the coronavirus disease (Covid-19), taking the caseload and death toll to 29,510,410 and 374,305 respectively, according to the Union ministry of health and family welfare.

The count of active cases has further declined to 9,73,158 which is 3.30% of the total infections, while the national Covid-19 recovery rate has improved to 95.43%.

As many as 1,19,501 patients recovered from the disease in the last 24 hours taking the total number of recoveries in the country to 2,81,62,947. While the case fatality rate has increased to 1.27 per cent, the data stated.

Also, 14,92,152 Covid-19 tests were conducted on Sunday, taking the total number of such examinations in the country so far to 37,96,24,626, it stated, adding that the daily positivity rate was recorded 4.72%.

The Union Health Ministry has informed that around 25,48,49,301 Covid vaccine doses have been administered so far under the nationwide vaccination drive.

Most states are easing the Covid-19 curbs, which they first started imposing in mid-April, in a staggered manner, confining it to districts with low positivity rates and active cases and continuing with restrictions like the closure of schools and colleges and night curfew.

In Delhi, shops and malls are allowed to operate every day from 8 am to 10 pm while restaurants can open with 50%. The neighbouring state of Haryana continues to be under lockdown for one more week. However, as per the new guidelines, all shops can open from 9 am to 8 pm while malls can function from 10 am to 8 pm.
