Coronavirus: India reports 20,799 new COVID-19 cases, 180 deaths in past 24 hours

According to the ministry, the active cases account for 0.80% of overall infections, the lowest since March 2020.

According to Union Health Ministry statistics published on Monday, India gained 20,799 new coronavirus infections, bringing the total number of COVID-19 cases to 33,834,702, while active cases fell to 2,644,58, the lowest in 200 days. According to figures updated at 8 am, the death toll has risen to 4,48,997, including 180 new fatalities.

According to the ministry, the active cases account for 0.80% of overall infections, the lowest since March 2020, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate was 97.87%, the greatest since March 2020. In the last 24 hours, the active COVID-19 caseload has decreased by 6,099 cases. At least 26,718 recoveries occurred in the previous 24 hours, bringing the overall number of recoveries to 3,31,21,247.

For the previous 101 days, the country reported a weekly positivity rate of 1.63 per cent, which is less than 3 per cent. The country's daily optimism rate is 2.10 per cent, less than 3 per cent for the previous 35 days. The country has administered 90.79 crore COVID vaccine doses so far under the nationwide COVID vaccination drive.

Meanwhile, Kerala recorded 12,297 new COVID-19 cases and 74 fatalities on Sunday, bringing the total caseload to 47,20,233 and the death toll to 25,377. As per the state health department, Maharashtra recorded 2,692 new positive cases and 41 fatalities, with 2,716 patients discharged.

According to an official press statement, 16,333 persons have recovered from the virus since Saturday, bringing the overall number of recoveries to 45,57,199 and the number of active cases to 1,37,043.

So far, the Nationwide Vaccination Drive has resulted in the administration of 90.79 crore vaccine doses. In the first 103 days of the vaccination campaign, which began on June 21, 2021, more than 59 crore doses were delivered.
