Coronavirus: India logs 31,222 fresh COVID-19 cases; deaths lowest in 167 days

India on Monday reported 31,222 new Covid-19 cases and 290 deaths in the last 24 hours, according to the Union Health Ministry data.  

India clocked 31,222 Covid-19 cases and 290 deaths in the last 24 hours, according to the Union Health Ministry data on Tuesday. This pushed the total tally at 33,058,843 including 441,042 deaths.

A total of 42,942 people recovered during this time, which brings the total recoveries to 3,22,24,937 across the country. India's recovery rate now stands at 97.48%.

Meanwhile, the active cases tally dropped to 3,92,864 as active cases declined by 12,010 in the last 24 hours. Kerala recorded more than half of the total cases reported in the last 24 hours, with 19,688 cases.

According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) data, 53,31,89,348 samples have been tested up to September 6 for Covid-19. Of these 15,26,056 samples were tested on Monday.
