Coronavirus: India logs 24,354 new COVID-19 cases; active caseload lowest in 197 days

India reports 24,354 new cases and 234 deaths in the last 24 hours, according to the Union Health Ministry data.

India on Saturday reported 24,354 new Covid-19 cases and 234 fatalities in the last 24 hours, taking the cumulative caseload tally to 3,37,91,061 and death toll to 4,48,573, according to the Union Health Ministry data.

The active caseload declined by 1,335 in a day, pushing India's active caseload to 2,73,889, the lowest in 197 days. The active cases account for 0.81% of total cases, the lowest since March 2020.

A total of 25,455 recoveries in the last 24 hours across the country took the total number of recoveries to 3,30,68,599. The recovery rate currently stands at 97.86%, the highest since March 2020, the ministry said.

According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) data, so far 57,19,94,990 samples have been tested up to October 1 for Covid-19. Of these 14,29,258 samples were tested on Friday.

So far, a total of 89.74 crore vaccine doses have been administered under the nationwide vaccination drive.
