Coronavirus: India clocks 21,257 new COVID-19 cases, 5% decrease in daily infections

India logged 21,257 new Covid-19 cases, and 271 deaths in a span of 24 hours, the Union health ministry said on Friday.

With 21,257 people testing positive for Covid-19 infection in the last 24 hours on Thursday, the total tally of cases rose to 3,39,15,569. While 271 deaths in a span of 24 hours took the death toll to 4,50,127, according to the Union Health Ministry data.  

The country's active caseload stands at 2,40,221 with a decline of 3,977 active cases in the last 24 hours. Active cases currently stand at 0.71%, according to the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

A total of 24,963 recoveries in the last 24 hours across the country took the total number of recoveries to 3,32,25,221. The recovery rate currently stands at 97.96%, the highest since March 2020, the ministry said.

According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) data, 13,85,706 tests were conducted on Thursday, taking the total number of tests conducted so far for detection of Covid-19 in the country to 58,00,43,190 so far.

Meanwhile, so far 93.17 crore vaccine doses have been administered under the national vaccination drive.
