Asianet News-CFore survey: Caste dynamics could be the decider

Caste and faith dynamics may play a crucial role in deciding the winner in the forthcoming assembly election in the state, data received by the Asianet News-CFore pre-poll survey has revealed.

The survey, which took the opinion of 10,396 respondents in 272 urban centres and 811 rural centres using a systematic sampling methodology, saw the Left Democratic Front gaining support from the powerful Ezhava Community besides Muslims, Dalits and Other Backward Classes.The survey shows that 41 per cent of the Dalit respondents, 47 per cent of Muslims, 45 per cent of Ezhavas and 43 per cent of Other Backward Classes endorsed the Left Democratic Front.As for the Congress-led United Democratic Front, the alliance seems to have a foothold over the Christian community vote share and the Nair community.

The UDF found support among 58 per cent of Catholic respondents, 52 per cent Jacobites, 59 per cent Syrian Christians, 51 per cent orthodox and 51 per cent Marthoma respondents.Prime Minister Narendra Modi's interventions to resolve the century-old dispute between Orthodox and Jacobite Syrian church groups seem to have had an impact on the BJP's image within the two communities.BJP-led NDA seems to have made major inroads across the caste and faith groups, which is expected to reflect in the alliance's improved seat share and vote share in the coming elections.
