BBC Asian Network's radio show 'Big Debate' received a shellacking on social media after a speaker abused Prime Minister Narendra Modi's mother.The abusive remarks came during a discussion hosted by Pria Rai on racism against Sikhs and Indian in the United Kingdom on March 1.Deviating from the subject, one of the callers raised the issue of the farmers' protests in the outskirts of Delhi and went on to abuse Prime Minister Modi's mother.Even though the host cut off the caller identified as Simon, a number of listeners took to social media condemning the remarks.Some people also claimed a violation of UK broadcasting rules and sought action against the programme.

Others slammed the anchor for issuing what they believed was a weak apology.Anchor Pria Rai is heard saying later in the programme, "We would like to apologise for some of the offensive language used by the guest on the show earlier. It is a live show and we discuss controversial issues often. There was no reason for the type of language that was used and I would like to say sorry again for any offence that was caused."Following the backlash, the BCC network edited out the derogatory remarks from the programme.Hundreds of farmers have been camping outside the national capital in protest against the three farm laws. They are seeking repeal of the controversial laws that came into existence in September last year.
