Mumbai City FC continued its glorious run in the 2020-21 Indian Super League, as it tamed SC East Bengal, 1-0, at the Tilak Maidan in Goa, on Friday. Mumbai stayed atop the table with this win, while SCEB continued to lurk in the tenth spot.
The opening half saw an offensive beginning, with six attacks within the 16th minute, including a save from SCEB goalkeeper, Debjit Majumder. Nonetheless, ten minutes later, Mourtada Fall fired a header to the centre from a similar position, following a corner assist from Hugo Boumous, as Mumbai earned the opening lead.
Six more attacks ensued in the half, including a save from Mumbai keeper, Amrinder Singh. Nonetheless, Mumbai maintained its lead at the half-time break.
The second half saw a similar approach from both, with 11 attacks being attempted, while twin saves from both the keepers saw Mumbai maintain its slender lead. Eventually, Fall's solitary goal turned out to be the winner, as Mumbai claimed the three points to stay on the top, while SCEB's woes saw no end.
Up next, Mumbai would take on sixth-placed Chennaiyin FC, on Monday. As for SCEB, it would now have a week's rest before locking horns with third-placed FC Goa, on Friday.
