In what turned out to be a thrilling encounter, ATK Mohun Bagan stole a win against Chennaiyin FC in the 2020-21 Indian Super League, at the Fatorda Stadium in Bengaluru, on Thursday. The success allowed ATKMB to stay on second, while Chennaiyin remained on sixth.
The first half was interesting, as nine attacks were attempted, including a couple of saves from Chennaiyin goalkeeper, Vishal Kaith. Nonetheless, nine the teams were able to break the deadlock at the half-time break.
The second half was an even composed one, with just three attacks being attempted within the 78th minute, including another save from Kaith. Nonetheless, it was 12 minutes later when David Williams' header to the bottom-left, in a close-range effort, following an assist Javi Hernández, handed ATKMB the lead in the closing minutes.
Chennaiyin did come to lose to levelling it with an attack in the 94th minute. However, it was no avail, as ATKMB walked away with the three points at the full-time whistle.
As for the next clash, ATKMB would take on fifth-placed NorthEast United FC on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Chennaiyin would face off against table-topper, Mumbai City FC, on Monday.
