In what turned out to be an intense encounter, FC Goa was held to a thrilling draw by former champion Chennaiyin FC, in the 2020-21 Indian Super League, at the GMC Stadium in Goa, on Saturday. With this draw, while Goa has risen a spot to third, Chenniayin stays on the eighth.
The opening half saw four attacks within the eighth minute, while the first attack in the opening minute saw Goa goalkeeper, Dheeraj Singh come up with a save. Nonetheless, in the 12th minute, Jakub Sylvestr put Chennaiyin ahead through his left foot into the centre's bottom-right.
Goa followed it up with a couple of attacks until the 16th minute. However, two minutes later, Eli Sabiá conceded a penalty, owing to a handball, as Igor Angulo swiftly converted it through his left foot to the bottom-left, to draw level.
Seven more attacks ensued, as Sylvestr hit the post in the 42nd minute, followed by a save from Chennaiyin goalkeeper, Vishal Kaith. Nonetheless, deadlock stayed in place at the half-time break.
The second half saw three attempts being made until the 57th minute, including a save from each. Nevertheless, Lallianzuala Chhangte restored Chennaiyin's lead a couple of minutes later, through his left foot to the bottom left from the left flank, thanks to Reagan Singh's assistance.
Six more attacks followed until the 88th minute. However, Ishan Pandita levelled it again in the 91st minute, with his left foot to the top-right from the right, following Alberto Noguera's assistance. It turned out to be the game's final attack, as both split the points apiece at the full-time whistle.
