West Bengal reports 229 new COVID-19 cases; 9 more deaths

The number of containment zones in Kolkata increased again. According to Kolkata Municipality sources, the list of new containment zones includes two houses in Ballygunge area. In Kolkata, meanwhile, the daily number of COVID-19 cases has dropped below 100, but the city dwellers are worried about the increase in the number of containment zones.
 

West Bengal on Sunday (January 31) reported 229 new COVID-19 cases pushing the toll to 5,54,272. According to the state health bulletin, 9 people died in a single day in the state pushing the tally to 10,173.

A total of 5,54,272 people has recovered from the disease thus far. The recovery rate in the state stands at 97.24 percent.

Out of the 9 deaths, North 24 Parganas accounted for 3 deaths, followed by Howrah at 2. One death was recorded in Kolkata.

Bengal currently has 5,553 active cases. Kolkata reported 61 new COVID-19 cases and North 24 Parganas 58, the bulletin said.

As many as 79,95,854 samples have been examined in the state so far, including 25,046 since Saturday (January 30).
