TMC MP Derek O'Brien slams Modi government over farmer’s issue

TMC leader Derek O’Brien on Thursday (February 4) slammed the Modi government for its handling of the ongoing farmer protests. He accused the government of digging trenches and putting up spikes, where bridges should have been built to win over farmers.

Farmers on the outskirts of Delhi have been protesting for more than two months demanding repeal of three agricultural laws. There was a heated debate in the parliament on Wednesday (February 3).

Derek O’Brien said, “Government has failed India at many levels, it failed to uphold Parliament’s sanctity because of its arrogance. Imagine the response if a Delhi-like situation had happened in West Bengal.”

Many expatriates are reacting through the Indian society by supporting the peasant movement. Various countries have also officially expressed concern over the peasant movement. But New Delhi has reacted strongly, saying there is no need for any other country to worry about India's internal affairs.
