PM Modi tweets in Bengali over Netaji’s birth anniversary before coming to Kolkata

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is coming to West Bengal on Saturday (January 23) afternoon for 'Parakram Diwas' celebrations to commemorate Subhas Chandra Bose's 125th birth anniversary.

However, his arrival is expected to mark not only Netaji's birthday, but also another phase in Bengal electoral cycle.

Taking to Twitter, PM Modi wrote in Bengali: " পশ্চিম বঙ্গের প্রিয় ভাই ও বোনেরা,পরাক্রম দিবসের, এই শুভ দিনটিতে আপনাদের মধ্যে আসতে পেরে আমি নিজেকে ধন্য মনে করছি। কলকাতায় এই উপলক্ষ্যে আয়োজিত অনুষ্ঠানে আমরা বীর-কেশরী সুভাষ চন্দ্র বসুকে শ্রদ্ধার্ঘ্য জানাব (Dear sisters and brothers of West Bengal, I am honoured to be in your midst, that too on the auspicious day of Parakram Divas. Later, in another tweet in Hindi, Narendra Modi said, "Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose was a great independent fighter and the true son of Mother India. Greetings on his birthday. The people of the country will always remember Netaji's 'sacrifice and surrender' for the independence of the country with gratitude.”

PM Modi will preside over the inaugural function of the `Parakram Diwas` celebrations at Victoria Memorial. Mamata Banerjee is expected to share the same stage with PM Modi at the function.

Narendra Modi is scheduled to arrive at Dumdum Airport in Kolkata by 3 pm on Saturday. From there, to the National Library at 3:30. He will attend an international seminar on Netaji. From there, he will to Victoria Memorial at 4.30 pm. Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankar and Mamata Banerjee is invited in the function. The function is supposed to end at 8 o'clock. Modi is scheduled to catch a flight back to Delhi at 8 pm.
