The Met office has explained the reason for this weather. A monsoon trough has entered West Bengal after passing through Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh. Within the state, this trough is moving over Purulia and Digha, extending eastwards all the way to Tripura.

Tuesday Weather
This is why the sky has been overcast since Tuesday morning. As the day went on, some places already received rainfall. The forecast predicts heavy showers for North Bengal's Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar, and Cooch Behar today.
The weather office has issued a warning for scattered rains across all districts of South Bengal for Tuesday and Wednesday. On Wednesday, Bankura, Paschim Medinipur, Purba Medinipur, and South 24 Parganas could see heavy rainfall. After this, the chances of heavy rain in the southern districts will reduce for the rest of the week.

North Bengal
The bad weather will continue in North Bengal on Tuesday. There might be a slight relief from the storms and rain on Wednesday and Thursday. However, the districts of North Bengal could face another round of rain after that. On Friday, Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, and Kalimpong are expected to receive heavy showers.
