Today's weather update

The Alipore Met office reports a high chance of thunderstorms across South Bengal. A cyclonic circulation has formed over South Gangetic West Bengal and nearby North Odisha, extending up to 1.5 km above the ground.

Rain forecast for various districts

The Met office also said that this cyclonic circulation is pulling in a lot of moisture from the Bay of Bengal. Because of this and favourable winds, rainfall with thunderstorms will likely increase in many districts over the next few days.

The weather department's warning is clear: some districts might face intense storms. People should stay alert for lightning, gusty winds, and heavy rain. The advisory suggests staying indoors and away from trees or open fields.

Yellow and orange alerts in several South Bengal districts

The detailed seven-day forecast shows that yellow and orange alerts may be issued for several South Bengal districts. Some parts of North Bengal could also see thunderstorms. The administration is keeping a close watch, and disaster management teams are on standby.

How will Kolkata's weather be?

Kolkata's sky will be mostly clear, with almost no chance of rain. The maximum temperature will be around 32-33°C, and the minimum will hover around 24°C. While humidity is moderate, the sun will feel quite strong. The previous maximum was 31.9°C and minimum was 24.6°C. By Saturday, the max temp could hit 36°C. Though day and night temperatures are below normal now, they are slowly rising. Mornings and evenings are still pleasant, but it gets uncomfortable after noon.

North Bengal weather update

The weather is changing a bit in the hilly areas of North Bengal. On Friday, Darjeeling, Kalimpong, and Jalpaiguri districts might get light to moderate rain with thunderstorms. However, the rain might reduce by Sunday and Monday, affecting only Darjeeling district.
