Weather office issues rain forecast again

The weather office has issued a new rain forecast for West Bengal. North Bengal is on alert for heavy showers, while South Bengal can expect scattered thunderstorms. This comes right after a low-pressure system caused heavy to very heavy rain across several districts.

Rain forecast in districts of South Bengal

The latest forecast predicts rain across both North and South Bengal. The weather office has issued a heavy rain alert for districts like Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, and Alipurduar. Authorities are also warning about possible landslides and traffic disruptions in the hilly areas.

Possibility of scattered thunderstorms

The rain isn't letting up in South Bengal. Kolkata and nearby districts will see mostly cloudy skies. You can expect light to moderate showers or scattered thunderstorms in places like South 24 Parganas, Howrah, Hooghly, East and West Medinipur, Jhargram, Nadia, and Murshidabad.

For now, Kolkata is unlikely to see continuous heavy rain. The sun might peek through the clouds. However, local thunderstorms could develop later in the day. This might lead to temporary waterlogging in low-lying areas and slow down traffic during the showers.

Along with the rain, the humidity is also on the rise. So, even when it's not raining, you'll feel that sticky, sultry heat. The 'feel-like' temperature will stay high because of the moisture in the air. On August 20, the maximum temperature in some areas was around 32-35 degrees Celsius.

The Alipore Weather Office has issued a warning. They predict rain and thunderstorms for South Bengal on August 21 and 22. While August 23 and 24 might be calmer, heavy rain is expected to return on August 25 and 26. Looks like the monsoon is still going strong.
