People will not be able to perform tarpan on the occasion of Mahalaya in the Ganga ghat of Dakshineswar temple. Authorities have decided to keep the Ganga ghat closed on the day of Mahalaya due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Manoj Barma, the police commissioner of Barrackpore said that a letter had been sent to the Dakshineswar authorities asking them to stop people from entering the temple.

DC (South) Anand Roy said, countless people, crowded the temple premises on the day of Mahalaya. It has been proposed to close the temple for the safety of people.

Every year millions of people come to the Dakshineswar temple on the day of Mahalaya. Chandni Ghat, Bakultala and Panchabati Ghats are crowded with lots of people.

Every year pilgrims come to the temple and worship in the Ganga ghat on the day of Mahalaya. A huge police force was seen near the Ganga ghat to control the crowd. The parking area also remains closed.

On the other hand, every year, innumerable pilgrims gather at Sri Sarada Maa’s Ghat at Belur Math to perform tarpan on the occasion of Mahalaya. However, many monks and workers have already been infected with COVID in Belur Math. Therefore, the authorities decided to close the Ganga ghat for the safety of people.
