Telangana: Several Districts On Yellow Alert As Rains Intensify!

The Hyderabad Meteorological Centre has some news for us. A low-pressure system in the Bay of Bengal is set to bring heavy rains across Telangana. They've even issued a Yellow Alert for some districts, so it's time to keep your umbrellas handy.

Changing weather conditions in the Bay of Bengal

The Met department says a monsoon trough is currently active over Telangana. It stretches from Amritsar, Ambala, Muzaffarnagar, and a low-pressure area in southeast Uttar Pradesh, through Ranchi and Digha, towards the northeast Bay of Bengal. A surface circulation over the Telangana-Rayalaseema border area also continues, extending up to 5.8 km above sea level. These systems are combining to bring more rain to Telangana.

Rains in several districts in the next 24 hours

The weather office predicts thunderstorms across many areas in the next 24 hours, with North and East Telangana getting the most impact. Districts like Adilabad, Kumrambheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Jagtial, Peddapalli, Karimnagar, Rajanna Sircilla, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam, Mahabubabad, Warangal, and Hanamkonda are likely to get drenched.

Rains in Hyderabad too

While West Telangana might see lighter showers in places like Kamareddy, Medak, Sangareddy, and Vikarabad, Hyderabad, Medchal-Malkajgiri, and Rangareddy districts are also on alert for rain. The Met department has also forecast rain for Nalgonda, Suryapet, and Mahbubnagar, and has warned city commuters to be careful of sudden downpours.

Heavy rain warning for these districts

The weather department has issued a Yellow Alert for Thursday and Friday in several districts. Bhadradri Kothagudem, Hanamkonda, Jangaon, Khammam, Mahabubabad, Mancherial, Suryapet, and Warangal can expect heavy rains. Officials also predict strong winds of 40 to 50 kmph, and have asked district authorities to stay prepared.

Officials have issued a safety advisory. They are asking people to stay indoors during heavy rain and strong winds unless it's an emergency. It's best to avoid standing near trees, electric poles, transformers, or large hoardings. Also, make sure not to park your vehicles under trees and stay away from any snapped power lines.
