Coronavirus: Spike of 86,052 cases takes India’s COVID-19 tally past 58-lakh mark

India's COVID-19 caseload went past the 58-lakh mark with 83,347 infections being reported in a day, while over 45 lakh people have recovered from the disease, according to the Union Health Ministry data

With a spike of 86,052 new cases and 1,100 deaths in the last 24 hours, India's COVID-19 count rose above 58 lakhs on Wednesday.

According to the Union Health Ministry, this includes 9,70,116 active cases, and 4.75 million cured and discharged or migrated patients.

The death toll in the country due to the infection has reached 92,000.

India remains the second worst-affected country in this pandemic, behind only the United States which crossed 70 lakh cases.

The health ministry on Friday said that 75% of new cases of coronavirus in the country are concentrated in 10 states and Union Territories (UTs) as well as 74% of new recoveries.

States such as Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Odisha, Kerala, Delhi are some of the states that continue to be worst-hit due to the pandemic.

Meanwhile, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) said that a total of 68,928,440 samples have been tested for COVID-19 so far out of which nearly 1.5 million samples were tested on Thursday.
