West Bengal: Mamata, Amit Shah to hold separate rallies in same district around same time today

West Bengal on Thursday (February 18 is all set to witness a high dose of politically-charged speeches as Union Home Minister Amit Shah and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee are scheduled to address separate rallies in South 24 Parganas on the same day.

For the first time, the two leaders are holding rallies in the same district and at approximately the same time in the state.

Amit Shah is scheduled to visit Kakdwip in South 24 Parganas district, where he will flag off the final phase of the Rath Yatra. He will then have lunch at the residence of a migrant labourer and then undertake a roadshow.

Meanwhile, Mamata Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee will address a rally Pailan in South 24 Parganas.

It is for the first time in the run-up to the assembly elections that Banerjee and Shah will be holding rallies in the same district and more or less at the same time in the afternoon.

In 2019 Lok Sabha elections, BJP won 18 of the 42 seats. This time, it is aiming to come in power in West Bengal. The state goes to polls in April-May and the Election Commission is expected to announce the dates for the polls in the days to come.
