Take a pledge on Republic Day to ensure free and fair polls in Bengal: Jagdeep Dhankar

West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar on Sunday urged people to take a pledge on Republic Day to ensure free and fair elections in the state.
 

The governor tweeted, “Our State can flourish only when Democracy blossoms. For this free and fair elections @MamataOfficial administration @HomeBengal & police @WBPolice have to be politically neutral. Let’s pledge on this Republic Day to achieve in State free & fair elections, shun of violence.”

Elections to the 294-member West Bengal assembly are due in April-May. The political parties are strengthening its power to give a tough fight to the opposition in the upcoming polls.

Earlier, the governor said that those who oppose free and fair elections will be sternly dealt with. He said that his objective remains that the people of Bengal cast their votes.

At a meeting in South 24 Parganas, Dhankar said, “As governor my biggest task is to ensure that the 2021 polls are conducted in a free and fair manner. Central forces will come on time. I am not a party to politics or stake holder in politics.”

Dhankhar said that there has been integration of administration with politics in West Bengal and asserted "The system has to be neutralised. It will be neutralised."
