Smriti Irani rides scooty during BJP’s roadshow in West Bengal

Just a day after West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was seen riding pillion to work, Union minister Smriti Irani on Friday (February 26) rode a scooter in Kolkata.

Mamata Banerjee was riding an e-scooter on Thursday (February 25) to protest against the skyrocketing fuel price rise.

However, Smriti Irani took part in her party's roadshow in the district bordering Kolkata, ahead of the upcoming assembly polls.

Smriti Irani said, “We're grateful that people of Bengal are coming out in large numbers to support us either in yatra or in programmes that are being done by our senior leadership, that is indicative that this time in West Bengal you'll see the lotus blossom.”

The BJP’s state-wide ‘Rath Yatra’ was led by Ms Irani along with BJP MP Roopa Ganguly and Agnimitra Paul. They began the campaign in Gangajoara near Garia on the party's "rath".

After covering a short distance, Smriti Irani got down from the ''rath'' and rode on a scooter. She was wearing a black helmet. The minister stops at frequent intervals in the road to avoid crowd gathering.

Scores of BJP workers followed Smiti Irani on two-wheelers, chanting "Jai Shri Ram" and "Khela Hobey" meaning ''game on''.
