Former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly continues to be a legendary figure in Indian cricket. While he is currently the president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India, fans would soon be witnessing his life story unfold on the big screen.
On Thursday, Luv Films announced the production of a biopic involving the life story of the former skipper and current BCCI president. Popularly known as ‘Dada’, he has been an inspiration to many young Indian cricketers back in the 1990s.
Ganguly rose to fame for his prolific batting on debut during his Lord’s Test when he scored a century. He soon cemented his place as an Indian regular and was eventually appointed the captain. He helped the side defeat England in the NatWest One-Day International series in 2002, as he waved his shirt at the Lord’s balcony in one of the iconic moments of his career.
While he also helped the side finish as the winner of the ICC Champions Trophy in 2002 and the runner-up of the 2003 ICC World Cup, it was since 2006 that his career took a downfall, especially under head coach Greg Chappell. He eventually made his comeback in 2007 before retiring on a high in 2008.
At the same time, he also happens to be one of the most successful and even controversial skippers of Team India. As for his biopic, it would be produced by Luv Ranjan and Ankur Garg, while the cast for the lead role is yet to be announced.
Luv Films is one of the most popular productions houses in India, having produced hit movies, like Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety, De De Pyaar De, Malang and Chhalaang. Its upcoming movies include ‘Kuttey’ and ‘Ufff’, to be directed by Ranjan.
