Sourav Ganguly is currently serving as the president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India. He was associated with Delhi Capitals last season, where he was working as the team mentor. The side managed to qualify for the playoffs and finished fourth.

Sourav Ganguly has been doing a fine job as the reigning president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). While there was a mild controversy surrounding him, following the latest comments of Delhi Capitals' (DC) captain Shreyas Iyer, the former has cleared the air on the same.

It was during DC's opening game against Kings XI Punjab (KXIP), when during the toss, Iyer had thanked Ganguly for his association with the side and having learned a lot under him. The comment immediately drew controversy, as Ganguly was put in a spot of bother regarding a conflict of interest.

"As a young captain, I am thankful to Ricky and Dada for being a part of my journey as a cricketer and captain last season. My comment ...... was to emphasise my gratitude towards the role they both have played in my personal growth as a captain," Iyer had said during the toss.

Nonetheless, Ganguly said that since he was associated with the side last season, he had helped Iyer in his captaincy. Ganguly further noted that he continues to talk to all and guide them, as he has played over 400 matches for India.

"I helped him (Iyer) last year. I may be the Board president, but don't forget that I've played 500 matches (424 matches) for India, so I can speak to a young player and help him, be it Shreyas Iyer or Virat Kohli. If they want help, I can," Ganguly said at a promotional event, reports India Today.

DC underwent a squad and management overhaul last season, while Ganguly was roped in as a mentor for the side. The team did well, as they qualified for the playoffs, before losing in the eliminator and finishing in the fourth spot.

This season, DC are off to a terrific start, having won their opening two games. They are currently at the top of the table, while they face Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in their third match, on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, although Ganguly continues to serve as the BCCI president, his tenure, as of now, is uncertain. According to current reforms, as imposed by the Supreme Court, an official cannot maintain the top spot in the organisation after six years and has to go on a mandatory cooling-off period. Currently, BCCI is contesting the decision, to overturn the reform, as Ganguly has been granted a temporary extension.
