Nonetheless, Ganguly said that since he was associated with the side last season, he had helped Iyer in his captaincy. Ganguly further noted that he continues to talk to all and guide them, as he has played over 400 matches for India.

According to current reforms, as imposed by the Supreme Court, an official cannot maintain the top spot in the organisation after six years and has to go on a mandatory cooling-off period. Currently, BCCI is contesting the decision, to overturn the reform, as Ganguly has been granted a temporary extension.
