He scored 52 runs in the final three overs, as he scored the second-most during the phase in the tournament's history, after Virat Kohli's 57 against Gujarat Lions (GL) in 2016. He also became the batsman to hit the most four-plus sixes in an IPL over (2), after Chris Gayle (5). He is also the second batsman to score more than 25 runs in an IPL over (3), after Gayle (7).
Sanju Samson hits the most: Samson's innings of an unbeaten 54 included three sixes. In the process, he has now hit the most sixes of the tournament (23), going past Nicholas Pooran (22).
Ben Stokes scripts a first: Stokes played a grand innings of an unbeaten 107. As a result, he has become the first batsman in the history of the competition to score two centuries while successfully chasing a total.
MI script an unwanted one: This was MI's highest unsuccessful defending total to date. The previous record for the same was 1947, which was chased down by Delhi Daredevils (DD) in 2018.
Match summary: Electing to bat, MI posted a challenging total of 1955, courtesy Pandya's brilliant unbeaten 60, while Ishan Kishan (37), Suryakumar Yadav (40) and Saurabh Tiwary (34), too, played their part. In reply, it was Stokes' unbeaten 107, along with Samson's unbeaten 54, that outlasted MI's bowling, as they won by eight wickets.
