Santhana Devan: Movie on Jallikattu, starring Tamil star Arya

Actor Arya and his brother Sathya have teamed up for Tamil drama "Santhana Devan". The movie is on the ancient and popular bull-taming sport Jallikattu. The song composition session will begin by the end of this week and shoot will kick start after Pongal. 

The age-old sport of Jallikattu has been a recent topic of controversy that has captured national attention, and there is a strong on-going debate on whether Tamil Nadu should celebrate this festival or not that involves animal cruelty

. 

In 2014, this sport was banned by Supreme Court because it involves cruelty to animals. Later, on the Apex Court also questioned the Central government’s decision to allow the usage of bulls in Jalikattu when it was explicitly banned by the court. 

However, going against the ban Tamil Nadu Chief Minister O Panneerselvam has promised to ensure that Jallikattu is held in the state.

In Tamil film industry, the sport has been used as a metaphor to prove the hero's strength and courage in a number of movies. Many films have shown the Heroes displaying their physical strength in this particular sports to impress the actress.  Jallikattu has been supported by many Tamil celebrities like Kamal Haasan, Dhanush and Simbu. 

Amidst the controversy and debates, the release of the poster of the movie Santhana Devan by Tamil film director Ameer and Arya has immediately grabbed the limelight as it shows that Jallikattu has an important part to play in the film.

The first look of the movie shows two muscular actors Arya and Sathya donning a white dhoti as they are trying to tame a large bull, in an arena with spectators watching on the sidelines. 

Adhiti will be seen pairing opposite Sathya while heroines for Ameer and Arya are yet to be finalised.

According to a report, the film shooting will start by the end of this month.  

Apart from launching the first look, he also welcomed director Ameer to the social networking platform saying, "Welcome @DirAmeer sir to Twitter. Thanks for the great opportunity #SanthanaDevan Shall live up to your expectations #JallikattuForSure.”

At the launch of the first look, Arya addressed the media, and as an answer to the question whether Jallikattu has any connection with the movie or not, he said, "We are not doing Santhana Devan just because of the hype now. It has always been a dream for me to work with Ameer sir.’’
