Amala Paul says 'yes' to divorce, ‘no’ to alimony!

Synopsis

The separation will be granted after a statutory period of 6 months. The actress has, reportedly decided not to accept alimony or compensation from Vijay and has explicitly mentioned that in her petition. Amala was accompanied by her family, throughout the court procedures.

According to close sources, the couple spend almost 45 minutes in court, along with their respective advocates. Amala's advocate Saib Jose Kidangoor was unavailable to comment on the case. The couple has filed for divorce with mutual consent, under the Section 13B of the Hindu Marriage Act.

In an open letter, Vijay wrote, "The base for any marital relationship is honesty and trust. When that is breached, the very existence of committed relationship becomes meaningless. I value the institution of marriage and relationship a lot."

Amala Paul and Vijay tied the knot on 12 June 2014 in Chennai, with the blessings of both their families.

Rumours of an impending divorce have been making the rounds since last month, when the actress confirmed that she has officially relocated to her hometown, Kochi.

It was said that the couple had decided to part ways due to Amala's interest in pursuing her acting career further.  The Mollywood actress signed Dhanush's upcoming movie Vada Chennai against the wishes of Vijay and his family as she had promised she would discontinue post-marriage.

The director, however, has slammed these rumours and said that it was more of a trust issues that led to the split.
