Leona Lishoy plays bootlegger in her next

Synopsis

The actress has previously played many challenging roles like a single mother and doctor in Midhun Manuel Thomas' movie. In a recent interview with an entertainment website, Leona said, "I play a bootlegger named Vanaja in Ajin Lal's directorial debut, Mughapadangal."

Leona added. "My character lives in a village with her husband. She is bold, assertive and arrogant. Actor Manikandan appears as my husband."

Leona says she found it extremely tough to bring the role of a bootlegger to life. The actress said "After playing a doctor, I had to act like a typical village in Mughapadangal. Initially, I found it tough to change into Vanaja, I had to undergo a makeover, I look tanned with oily hair, a big red bindi on the forehead and kohl-smeared eyes. My attire is a mundu and blouse."

According to the director, Leona has given her best to bring the character alive. "Mughapadangal talks about the lives of villagers, that highlights the age-old saying, 'what goes around comes around'. Vanaja is one among them who became bold and vigorous due to her circumstances. She brews liquor and sells it to make a living," he says.

Shine Tom Chacko and Anjali Aneesh Upasana also play pivotal roles in Mughapadangal. The film was shot extensively at Wayanad and is expected to release by September this year.
