IPL 2020: Two held in Bengaluru for placing bets on matches

The Bengaluru CCB sleuths on Tuesday arrested two men from Malleshwaram for placing bets on the ongoing Indian Premier League matches. ₹13.5 lakhs in cash and two mobile phones have been recovered from the accused. The tournament is currently being played in the United Arab Emirates.


Bengaluru Central Crime Branch (CCB) sleuths on Tuesday arrested two men from Malleshwaram for allegedly placing bets on the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) matches. According to Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime), Sandeep Patil, ₹13.5 lakhs in cash and two mobile phones have been recovered from the accused.

The Central Crime Branch (CCB) sleuths stated that the accused were running a cricket betting racket for the match of the IPL between Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) held on 22 October. Sandeep Patil added that the police found that the duo was placing bets on the tournament through a website.

Earlier the CCB had arrested four persons for betting on the IPL on October 6, while conducting raids at various locations in Bengaluru. Raids were carried out at Puttenahalli, Konanakunte and Byatarayanapura police station limits. It was reported that betting was done in the city using applications such as Lotusbook, Cric365day and Falcon.
