Taliban has gained total control of Afghanistan. Meanwhile, it seems to be a setback for women's sports in the country, with the Taliban barring them from participating in any sporting activity.
Afghanistan continues to be in internal turmoil following the takeover by the Taliban. Meanwhile, it seems like the women in the country would be affected in terms of sports. On Wednesday, the Taliban confirmed that women would not be allowed to participate in any sporting activities.
The Taliban's cultural commission's deputy head, Ahmadullah Wasiq, said in an exclusive interview with SBS News that women do not need to engage in cricket as it is not necessary for them. There could arise a situation when they would need to expose their face and body in the sport, which is not allowed in Islam, while in this media era, photos and videos will be all over social media, and people would see it. He further explained that the women would not get an Islamic dress code for sporting activities, leaving them prone to skin exposure.

Speaking on the scheduled men's team Test against Australia in Hobart this year, with the Taliban's decision casting doubts over it and ICC mulling cancelling it, Wasiq said that there would be no compromises even on that front. He said that the group fought hard for the religion and Islamic values are to be maintained.
Meanwhile, Cricket Australia is in regular talks with the International Cricket Council and the Australian government regarding the situation in Afghanistan and the upcoming men's Test. A CA spokesperson told the publication that while Afghanistan is a full ICC member and is scheduled to play the ICC World T20 next month, along with the Hobart Test, "some of the issues arising are significant global matters which transcend the game of cricket".
