What seemed to upset some social media users the most was Kohli's appeal to protect the environment by not bursting firecrackers.

These guys have no shame when they burst crackers on their birthdays, when they wins matches, New Year etc. No shame when they use gurgling SUVs, multi ACs etc

But they have temerity to pontificate on Deepawali and no spine on other festivals. https://t.co/k3OEweReHA

He owns a private jet too CO2 emissions by his jet is even more than airliner so his contribution towards the CO2 emissions is more than an average person which is 1.8 Tonnes/year. Also he was fined by Gurugram's civic authority for washing his SUV's by packaged mineral water.

Your private jet emits 20 times more CO2 than an airline.

One trip leads to more emission than 2500 average kids bursting crackers. Not to speak of your SUVs.

These celebs destroy environment more than anyone else. But can't tolerate Hindus having fun for a day. Hypocrites! https://t.co/3vt2THEAm3

Be a dedicated environmentalist like Virat Kohli. He doesn’t own any SUV or a private jet, nor does he play a sport needing 600,000L water to only maintain 3 pitches in a state with over 4000 farmers suicides due to droughts the same year! https://t.co/CDIRtWNmb9
