Yuvraj Singh is the latest cricketer to have donated to ‘Prime Minister’s Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations Fund’ (PM CARES Fund) to help India fight against the novel coronavirus (COVID-19)
Bengaluru: Former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh has pledged Rs 50 lakh to ‘Prime Minister’s Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations Fund’ (PM CARES Fund) to help India fight against the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

Yuvraj, who was recently criticised for supporting former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi’s foundation, took to the micro-blogging website Twitter to announce that he will donate Rs 50 lakh to PM CARES Fund.

On Sunday (April 5), Yuvraj, who won the Man-of-the-series in World Cup 2011, wrote, “We are stronger when we stand united. I will be lighting a candle tonight at 9pm for 9 minutes. Are you with me? On this great day of solidarity, I pledge Rs. 50 Lakhs to the #PMCaresFunds. Please do your bit too! @narendramodi #9pm9minutes #IndiaFightsCorona (sic).”

Several cricketers including Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Suresh Raina, have donated to PM CARES Fund. Apart from donating money, Indian cricketers have been involved in doing other charity works, including feeding the needy.
BCCI president Sourav Ganguly is helping feed more than 5,000 people daily in West Bengal. He has donated rice to Belur Math and ISKCON through his foundation.

So far, more than 3,500 people have been tested positive for the virus in India. Over 100 have lost their lives.
