Coronavirus: Suresh Raina disturbed by child abuse, domestic violence cases during lockdown

'I urge anyone who is facing violence please reach out for help & don’t shut yourself,' Chennai Super Kings (CSK) player Suresh Raina wrote on his Twitter page amid the lockdown due to the coronavirus (COVID-19)

Bengaluru: Indian batsman Suresh Raina on Monday (May 4) said he was disturbed with the increase in number of child abuse and domestic violence cases around the world during the lockdown due to the deadly coronavirus (COVID-19).

Sharing a picture of his family on his Twitter account, Raina urged the victims of violence to reach out for help.

“Lockdown has taught us various ways to love & bond with our family. Though it’s disturbing to read how exponentially the no. of child abuse & domestic violence cases have grown around the world. I urge anyone who is facing violence please reach out for help & don’t shut yourself. (sic),” the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) player wrote on his Twitter account.

According to media reports, domestic violence cases have doubled during the lockdown period when compared to pre-lockdown days.

Last month, Indian cricket team captain Virat Kohli too had raised his voice against domestic violence. He had posted a video on his Instagram account and said, “If you have been a victim, witness or a survivor of the domestic violence, please report.”

To contain the spread of the virus, India is under a lockdown until May 17. All sports activities have been suspended. The 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2020) has been suspended indefinitely.
