Coronavirus: Sachin Tendulkar makes ‘generous donation’ to help 4,000 underprivileged people

Sachin Tendulkar has donated money to help 4,000 underprivileged people in Mumbai as the country continues its fight against the coronavirus (COVID-19)


Bengaluru: Batting legend and former India captain Sachin Tendulkar has made a “generous donation” to help underprivileged people in Mumbai during the coronavirus (COVID-19) health crisis.

Currently, India is under a lockdown until May 17 to contain the spread of the virus. Tendulkar and many other cricketers are contributing in relief efforts. Now, Tendulkar has donated money to Hi5 Youth Foundation to support the families of daily wage workers.

“Thanks @sachin_rt for proving once again that #sports encourages compassion! Your generous donation towards our #COVID19 fund enables us to financially aid 4000 underprivileged people, including children from @mybmc schools. Our budding sportspersons thank you, Little Master! (sic),” Hi5 Youth Foundation wrote on its Twitter account on Thursday (May 7).

Retweeting this, Tendulkar wrote, “Best wishes to team Hi5 for your efforts in supporting families of daily wage earners.”

On its website, the foundation said, “Hi5 Youth Foundation will financially support 1000 families (@ Rs 3,000 per family) in Mumbai, by electronically transferring funds directly into their bank accounts for the next 2.5 months. Rs 1,000 of financial aid covers food costs for a family of 4 for 3 weeks, and Rs 3,000 supports a family of 4 for 9 weeks. Rs 30 Lakhs will enable us to provide relief for these 1000 families for the period of April – July 2020. 100% of your donations will go directly to the bank account of needy families.”

Tendulkar has been active on social media, creating awareness about the importance of staying at home to combat the coronavirus. Last month, he turned 47 but had decided to not celebrate his birthday.
