Coronavirus: Anil Kumble donates to PM CARES Fund; says ‘we all need to come together’

Spin legend Anil Kumble has donated money to PM CARES Fund and Karnataka chief minister's relief fund to help the country battle against coronavirus (COVID-19)

Bengaluru: Former India captain Anil Kumble is the latest cricketer to help the country fight against the novel coronavirus (COVID-19). Kumble has contributed to ‘Prime Minister’s Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations Fund’ (PM CARES Fund) and the Karnataka chief minister’s relief fund.

Several cricketers including batting legend Sachin Tendulkar, Indian team captain Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Ajinkya Rahane, Suresh Raina, Mithali Raj, Smriti Mandhana, Gautam Gambhir and others have donated money for coronavirus relief works.

Currently India is under a 21-day lockdown to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

On Saturday (March 28), Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced that PM CARES Fund was set up. He had tweeted about it and citizens started donating after that with Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar leading the way with Rs 25 crore donation.

“People from all walks of life expressed their desire to donate to India’s war against COVID-19. Respecting that spirit, the Prime Minister’s Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations Fund has been constituted. This will go a long way in creating a healthier India,” PM Modi had tweeted.

On Tuesday (March 31), spin legend Kumble tweeted that he has contributed PM CARES Fund and Karnataka CM relief fund. However, he did not disclose the amount. Even Kohli had not disclosed the money he had contributed.

“To bowl out #Covid19India we all need to come together and fight this battle. I have made my humble contributions to #PMCaresFund #PMNRF and #CMReliefFund @PMOIndia @narendramodi @CMofKarnataka @BSYBJP Please do #StaySafeStayHome (sic),” Kumble tweeted.
