TTD earns Rs 12 crore from auctioning ‘hair from shaving of heads’

TTD has collected Rs 12.62 crore in the auction of the hair received from shaving of heads offered by the devotees to Tirumala Sri Venkateswara Swamy. E-auction of the hair shaven from head takes place on the first Thursday of every month.

This e-auction of head hair took place yesterday under the supervision of TTD JEO K.S. Srinivasa Raju. The head hair was e-auctioned in the first, second, third, fourth and fifth categories. The total hair sold in this e-auction in this month is 14,900 kilos.

TTD e-auctioned head hair in the categories of first type (31 inches and above, second type (16 to 30 inches), third type (10 to 15 inches), fourth type (5 to 9 inches) and fifth type (5 inches and below).

The first type of head hair was sold at Rs 23,071 per kilo. Out of the 7800 kilos put up for auction, 500 kilos were sold with an income of Rs 1.15 crore. The second type of head hair was sold at Rs 17,223 per kilo. Out of the 45,900 kilos put up for auction, 5,500 kilos were sold with an income of Rs 9.47 crore.

The third type of head hair was sold at Rs 2,833 per kilo. Out of the 11,100 kilos put upor auction, 6,800 kilos were sold with an income of Rs 1.93 crore. The fourth type of head hair was sold at Rs 1,194 per kilo. 700 kilos were put up for auction, but none were sold.

The fifth type of head hair was sold at Rs. 33 per kilo. Out of the 97,000 kilos put up for auction, 2000 kilos were sold with an income of Rs 66,000. The white hair was sold at Rs 6,052 per kilo. 5,800 kilos were put up for auction and earned an income of Rs 6.06 lakh.
