Tensions were high after the brutal murder of Boddupalli Srinivas, a close aide of Nalgonda MLA Komatireddy Venkat Reddy and husband of Nalgonda Municipal Chairperson B Laxmi. Srinivas himself was a Congress leader.

After four days of searching and putting pieces together, the police have arrested eight persons in connection with the murder.

The arrested were Chinthakuntla Rambabu (30), Mandra Mallesh (32), Aluvala Sharathraj (27), Bashupaka Durgaiah (34), Kathula Kalyam Samrat (36), Damunuri Sathish (25), Merugu Gopi and Mathangi Mohan. The other three, who are absconding, were identified as Mandra Mahesh, Mittapalli Sai and Prasad, reported Telangana Today.

The accused had confessed to the crime during interrogation, Superintendent of Police DV Srinivas Rao said.

Although the police ruled out any political angle to the murder, Congress leaders continued to allege that Srinivas was eliminated by henchmen of Nakrekal MLA Vemula Veeresham. Even his widow Laxmi said that the police were hiding the real facts in the case.

The New Indian Express quoted Laxmi saying, " I went to the local police station and requested them to trace my husband. But, for more than an hour, police did not respond. Hence, local police will not do justice for us in the case and handing over the case to the CBI is the only solution. We repeatedly requested for protection but police did not provide security to us.”

Srinivas was allegedly threatened by TRS MLA Veeresham and TRS Nalgonda constituency in-charge K Bhupal Reddy to join the ruling party or face the consequences.
