Bengaluru lakes: Justice Santosh Hegde to write to NGT over BWSSB's blunder
The National Green Tribunal (NGT) constituted a committee to monitor the development of lakes. Now, the committee is left in deep shock by the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewage Board (BWSSB) as it has built sewage treatment Plant without the provision to let the treated water into lakes. The committee headed by former Lokayukta Santosh Hegde visited Agra Lake and made this observation. He says he will send the report to NGT for further action.
Bengaluru: The National Green Tribunal's (NGT) committee tasked to monitor the development of Bengaluru lakes, inspected the Agra Lake on April 30 and found that the stormwater running along the lake is polluted as only sewage is being let in.
Former Karnataka Lokayukta and chief of the Lake Development Plan set up by the NGT, Santosh Hegde, in his observation said public money is being wasted by the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewage Board (BWSSB).
He was left disappointed by the BWSSB official's sewage treatment plan (STP) as it lacked clarity and the projects are nothing short of “shoddy work”. According to Justice Hegde, the STP is being built without the provision of letting the treated water into stormwater drain and lake.
He also said that he will take action and write a letter in this regard to NGT to take action against BWSSB.
