Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday urged the Union government to prepare for an imminent third wave of Coronavirus and warned it to manage the pandemic appropriately or risk facing multiple such waves.

Releasing a White Paper on the central government's management of the Covid-19 pandemic, Rahul said that it is important that the government prepares itself for what is going to come.

"What does it mean to prepare itself? It means to have the infrastructure ready, which was not ready in the first and second wave," he said.

Rahul said that the idea behind the Congress party's White Paper is to provide insights and information so that avoidable deaths can be prevented in the coming waves.

"It is pretty clear, the management of the first and second wave was disastrous. This is a blueprint on how to react to the third wave which is going to come. It is our intention to provide the government with information & insights on what went wrong."

It is pretty clear that the third wave is coming, and I would even go so far as to say that you might even have waves after the third wave because this virus is continuously mutating and changing form, the Wayanad MP said.

"It is very important that we aggressively do vaccinations and cross this bridge of 100% vaccination as soon as possible because that is the only protection," he said.

Stating that the purpose of this white paper is not to point fingers at the government, Rahu said that the Narendra Modi government must work on our constructive inputs in the interest of the country.
