People now know that the corrupt will not be spared: PM Modi
Prime Minister Narendra Modi called upon officers not to hold back from taking action against the corrupt and ensure that there is no safe haven for anyone who deceives the country and countrymen.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday said that his government had succeeded in convincing the nation in the last six to seven years that it is possible to tackle corruption.
Delivering a video message to the joint conference of the Central Vigilance Commission and the Central Bureau of Investigation, the Prime Minister said that there is now confidence among people that they can derive the benefits of the government schemes without middlemen and bribes. Targeting the previous governments, Prime Minister Modi said that they lacked both political and administrative will to deal with corruption. However, he said, that now there is a political will to take on corruption.Â
The Prime Minister reiterated how the government had traversed the journey from maximum control and maximum damage to minimum government and maximum governance. He also detailed how the Bharatiya Janata Party government had been reducing government interference in the common people's lives.
Stating that the government thrust was on empowering the citizens through technology and trust, Prime Minister Modi said that the central government had reposed its trust in citizens and removed many layers of document verification. He pointed out how compliance requirements would soon be removed and that many of the permissions have been made faceless. He said that people in the country now generally felt that the corrupt, howsoever mighty, will not be spared, wherever they go.
Speaking on the occasion, the Prime Minister called upon officers not to hold back from taking action against the corrupt and ensure that there is no safe haven for anyone who deceives the country and countrymen. He also urged them to remove the fear of the system from the minds of the people.
Stating that corruption snatched the rights of people and hindered the pursuit of justice and impacted the nation's collective power, Prime Minister Modi called upon the CBI and CVC to remove processes that come in the way of new India and abolish corruption from all walks of national life. He asked the two agencies to strengthen New India's policy of zero tolerance for corruption.
