WhatsApp adds more security: Here's a step-by-step guide on how to enable it

Firstly, two-step verification is an optional feature. Once you enable it, verifying your number on WhatsApp will be accompanied by a pre-set six-digit passcode of your choice. If you are looking for additional security, here's a step-by-step explanation on how to enable it. 

To enable two-step verification, open WhatsApp and go to Settings. Under Settings, tap Account and you will find two-step verification option along with others such as privacy, security, change number and delete account. Once you choose two-step verification, it will take you to a page that explains what's the feature all about and has an 'Enable' button. 

On hitting the enable button, it will take you to the page with the option to enter a six digit passcode. It will then ask you to confirm the passcode. This passcode will be needed each time you want to verify WhatsApp number. Once you choose your passcode, the next step involves an optional email id. Again, it will ask you to confirm the email id on a new page. 

This email address will allow WhatsApp to send you a link via email in case you would want to disable the two-step verification and cannot remember your six-digit passcode. It will help safeguard your account.

Finally, it will take you to the page that confirms the activation of two-step verification. With this, every time you want to verify your number or change your phone, the passcode will be mandatory. You can also choose to disable or change the passcode or email id at any point. WhatsApp recommends an accurate email address so that you're not locked out of your account if you forget your passcode.
