The countdown for the launch of the Indian Space Research Organisation's GSLV-F10 mission got underway in the wee hours of Wednesday.

GSLV-F10 will launch from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre SHAR in Sriharikota with the Earth Observation Satellite, EOS-03, on August 12.

The EOS-03 is an Earth observation satellite that will be deployed in the Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit by the fourteenth flight of the GSLV. The satellite will position itself in its planned final geostationary orbit using onboard propulsion.

The satellite, which has a mission life of 10 years, is expected to provide near real-time imaging of large area region of interest at frequent intervals.

Besides enabling quick monitoring of natural disasters, episodic events and any short-term events, the EOS-3 will obtain spectral signatures for agriculture, water bodies, forestry as well as for disaster
warning, cyclone monitoring, cloud burst and thunderstorm monitoring.

This would be the 79th launch vehicle mission from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre SHAR in Andhra Pradesh.
